Completed CommissionsChamber Orchestra. The Pacifica Chamber Orchestra commissioned "Sunshine Music" for their January 22, 2012 concert program. Brass Trio (2011). The Electrum Brass Trio commissioned a new work for horn, trombone & tuba. The result is "Three Cowboys Poolside: A Chiaroscuro Adventure for Low Brass." Mixed choir (2010) The Cantare Vocal Ensemble commissioned a new SATB setting of "The Fervid Hokey-Poke." The poem by Jeff Brechlin is a hilarious adaptation of the traditional "hokey pokey" written in the style of William Shakespeare. It's a hoot! Trumpet & string quartet (2009). Trumpeters Brian Chin, principal trumpet with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, Nate Mayfield of the Austin Brass Center (Texas), Bryan Appleby-Wineberg, principal trumpet with the Bay-Atlantic Symphony (New Jersey), Adrian Kelly of the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts (Perth), and Marco Esperti of the Teatro de la Scala (Milan) commissioned a new work for trumpet and string quintet, with alternate accompaniment arrangements for piano, string orchestra and chamber orchestra. Summer Suite was premiered by Brian Chin and string quartet in Seattle on May 1, 2009. Nate Mayfield premiered the trumpet & piano arrangement in Houston on July 6, 2009. Wind quintet (2008). An international consortium of 20 wind quintet ensembles commissioned the Second Suite from Razumov, which was premiered by the Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh on November 9, 2008. Viola da gamba and recorder (2006). Beneath the Apple Tree for viola da gamba and alto recorder was commissioned by Noreen Jacky as a 25th wedding anniversary gift to her husband. The piece won the 2006 Orpheus Music Composition Competition for new music for recorder. Brass quintet (2006). Dr. Gary Powell Nash of Fisk University commissioned the Voyageur Suite for brass quintet. The suite was given its world premiere by the Alaska Brass in February 2007, followed by its Australian premiere by the Black Mountain Brass in March 2007, the California premiere by the Menlo Brass in April 2007, the Washington State premiere in 2008, and the New York premiere in 2011. String Trio (2004). The Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium commissioned String Trio for George Crumb in celebration of George Crumb's 75th birthday. Premiered July 2, 2004, by the Third Angle New Music Ensemble at Beall Hall, Eugene, Oregon, the work has subsequently been performed in Chicago and Idaho, and was released on CD by the Langroise Trio. Choir and piano (2004). Gilda's Club Seattle and The Seattle Composers Alliance commissioned Song of the Mountains for the Combined Choirs of St. Joseph's School (Seattle). Premiered at the second annual New Works New Hope concert at the Nordstrom Recital Hall, Benaroya Hall, Seattle, May 5, 2004, a revised score was performed at the Aaron Copland School of Music in November 2007. Choir (2002). The Esoterics commissioned twelve Pacific Northwest composers to set verses from the Astronomica of 1st Century BCE poet Marcus Manilius. Each composer was commissioned to set an ancient Latin horoscope for the composer's own astrological sign. Bartholomew's Leo was premiered as part of The Esoterics' ZODIAKOS: the stories of the stars in four performances in Western Washington in December 2002. |
