Trumpeter Brian Chin presented the World Premiere performance of the new Summer Suite for trumpet and string quartet at the Seattle Composers Salon on May 1, 2009. Steve Creswell, Kim Zabelle, Eva Sheie and Brad Hawkins formed the string quartet for the premiere performance.

On July 6 trumpeter Nathaniel Mayfield gave the world premiere of the arrangement of the Summer Suite for trumpet and piano at the American Festival for the Arts in Houston. He performed the piece again at Texas A&M University on October 13.

Perth, Australia

Australian trumpeter Adrian Kelly presented the Australian premiere of Summer Suite with piano accompaniment by pianist Stephanie Nicholls on July 28 at Perth's Ellington Jazz Club. In 2010 he will give the world premiere of the arrangement for trumpet and orchestra.

On Sunday, September 27, trumpeter Jean Christophe Dobrzelewski and pianist Carl Cranmer gave the New York premiere of the Summer Suite on the Composers Voice concert series.

The Second Suite from Razumov

The Second Suite from Razumov was commissioned by a consortium of twenty wind quintet ensembles from around the world. The Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh presented the world premiere on November 9, 2008, in Pittsburgh with a preconcert talk by the composer funded in part through Meet The Composer's MetLife Creative Connections program. Seven other ensembles performed regional premieres throughout 2009.

Goat Hall Productions presented Scenes from Razumov on May 22 & 23, 2009, as part of their Fresh Voices IX Festival of New and Used Operas: "Rash Acts and their Consequences."

New trio arrangement of the
First Suite from Razumov

A new trio arrangement of the First Suite from Razumov for clarinet, cello and piano, was performed by the Morningside Trio in Pittsburgh on November 9, 2008, during the preconcert talk before the premiere of the new Second Suite from Razumov for wind quintet (see box above).

The Morningside Trio performed the piece again on March 1, 2009, in Pittsburgh, and on May 17, 2009, in Mt. Lebanon, Pa., in a program also featuring works by Beethoven, Brahms and Muczynski.

Praise for Langroise Trio recording of
String Trio for George Crumb

The Langroise Trio's exciting new CD Volante was praised in a review on MusicWeb International. The reviewer said of Greg Bartholomew's String Trio for George Crumb: "You will enjoy this work immensely and want to hear more by this 'youthful' (50 years old!) composer." They will perform the piece again in concert on March 12 & 13, 2010.

Three Gnostic Poems, new a cappella settings of poems by Fletcher LaVallee Bartholomew (1918-2006), were premiered by the chamber ensemble Coriolis, under the direction of Gregg Skalinder, in 2008.

The Orlando Chorale, under the direction of Gregory Ruffer, performed When I Land on March 14, 2009, in a concert titled "Come Fly With Me," a celebration of flight also featuring the premier of the Chorale's latest commission, High Flight, by composer Christopher Marshall, as well as other new music by David Conte, Rand Snell and Catherine McMichael.

31st Performance of
The Tree

The Tudor Choristers, under the direction of Andrew Blackburn, gave the Australian premiere and the 31st performance worldwide of The Tree on June 14, 2009.

Since its 2004 premiere by the American University Chamber Singers, The Tree has also been performed in Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, California, Oregon, Washington State and Ontario, Canada.
